Key 7 - Don't Let the Past Determine Your Future

God's Word teaches us that "because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23). Once we have asked for forgiveness and made a choice to live a Christ-centered life, God is not holding our past against us. If God is not holding our past against us, we shouldn't hold our own past against ourselves!

One of the definitions of mercy and compassion is that God forgives us and helps us even when we don't deserve it. Mercy and compassion are a huge blessing because in times of pain we sometimes need help. Mercy means that God overlooks our weaknesses, faults and poor decisions. If we can't get past the pain on our own, God will help us. The reality is that in order to have a great future, we can't let our past or current painful reality define who we really are. One of the things I like to tell people is that God's reality is bigger than our reality. We often get stuck in the day to day business or struggle. God so many times has something better. Even though we are going through our own reality, God has a reality that is better than what we are living in our current lives.

Too many times we just can't see it. But faith means trusting and believing when we can't actually see it! We have to accept God's mercy, healing, guidance and strength to get from our reality to His!

Prayer: Jesus, I know that your reality is better than anything that I can ever do. I receive your mercy and strength right now. Help me get to the better reality that you have waiting for me! I pray this in Jesus name - Amen!
